Character Discussion: DOCTOR STRANGE

DOCTOR STRANGE
(Name: Stephen Vincent Strange)
One of the newest characters to be included in the roster of MARVEL heroes in a Capcom Vs. Series, Doctor Strange was once an arrogant man and a surgeon. But after a car accident that severely damaged his hands, he seeks every means to find a cure until he ended up to nothing. In his desperation, he eventually went to Tibet to find the Ancient One (a.k.a. The Sorcerer Supreme) who is said to have the cure for his damaged hands. Through his surprise, the Ancient One really exist and teaches Strange magic.
However, after the Ancient One's death caused by one of his disciples Baron Mordo who has actually been controlled by Dormammu, Strange has now become the new Sorcerer Supreme.
With arch-nemesis like Shuma-Gorath and Dormammu, he is now the protector of Earth for all things mystic.

GAMEPLAY
Strange's gameplay often always deploys his Mystic Arts techniques and attacks with the help of his Eye of Agamotto. A true keepaway/zoning character, almost all of his special attacks and hyper combos allows him to control the screen and builds space between him and his opponents. Strange can also fly through his Cloak of Levitation. He is also one of the fastest teleporters in the game and tracks opponents in the field.

SPECIAL MOVES AND COMMAND NORMAL
  • Bolts of Balthakk - Strange fires 2 consecutive bolts of green energy that punishes the opponent from afar
  • Daggers of Denak - Strange call upon disks that stays on a position momentarily and them homes on the opponent
  • Eye of Agamotto - Strange summons a yellow ball in front of him and hits 10 times on stationary position and another 10 hits if struck by Impact Palm
  • Flames of the Faltine - Strange fires a flaming green energy that travels across the screen
  • Grace of Hoggoth - Strange summons a stationary glyphs that power-ups Strange's Flames of the Faltine
  • Illusion - A physical counter that puts Strange beside his opponent
  • Impact Palm - a command normal that puts the opponent on a crumple state upon impact
  • Mystic Sword - Strange summons magical swords that slashes the opponent
  • Teleportation - Strange teleports depending on the opponents position. Light teleports him in front of his opponent. Medium sets him behind and Heavy teleports him above the opponent.
  • Flight - Strange enter on flight mode with the use of his Cloak of Levitation
HYPER COMBOS
SEVEN RINGS OF RAGGADOR (Level 1 Hyper Combo) - Strange calls upon the 7 Rings of Raggador and counters all forms of incoming projectiles. Once countered, it will shoot a large blue beam of energy towards the opponent. This hyper combo counters all projectiles even hyper combos with a projectile property like Phoenix Rage and Finishing Shower. This is the only hyper combo in the game that counters all projectiles and has some start-up invincibility.

SPELL OF VISHANTI (Level 1 Hyper Combo) - Strange summons his spell book and summons a pillar of yellow energy which tracks the opponent. This move is a great combo finisher since it hits OTG. Can also be used after Astral Magic because of its sheer speed.
ASTRAL MAGIC (Level 3 Hyper Combo) - Strange lefts his physical body and his astral form travels to the screen and grabs the opponent with his Daggers of Denak. Once grabbed, he will call several Eye of Agamotto projectiles and explodes in the opponent in a Spell of Vishanti-like fashion. This hyper does an unscaled damage of 450,000.

PERSPECTIVE TOWARDS THE CHARACTER
The very famous Sorcerer Supreme of the Marvel universe. Having Doctor Strange in your team can either put you in a very good or very bad situation. Why very good? Well, Strange is very agile and great against characters who lacks projectile attacks. He goes great with characters who can cover-up his weak spots which is the spot above him. And why very bad? For players who are having a hard time with the Dragon-Punch motion, you may loss Strange's most vital move in gameplay; his teleport. Strange does not have an air-dash unlike other flying characters in the roster which means only his teleport can be your best tool in mix-ups and combos. He also has some of the best and fast hypers for punishing the opponent like his Spell of Vishanti hyper. For players who are familiar and uses Doctor Strange often, they can put him as a point character but for newbies, they can either place him on the second or third spot in the team (similar to how you may put Storm in the arrangement). Well guys, his no stranger to fighting and can really deliver a kick so what do you of Doctor Strange? What to put him on your team? :D
